An important message for all Senecans and Friends of the College: We need your help

Everything at Seneca begins and ends with our students. Our objectives as a college are based upon their successes.  Your connection with Seneca could change the life of one of our future leaders.

Over the past year, the drastic downturn in the economy significantly affected Seneca’s endowments for Financial Aid. These funds generate close to $500,000 in interst each year to support the 400 scholarships and  bursaries awarded to students across our campuses. However, for the 2009-10 school year, there has been insufficient interest generated to distribute these awards.

In response to this crisis, we asked to you to support  the College’s Appeal for Student Financial Aid Senecans from across the College, and the province, generously contributed to this campaign through gifts, payroll deductions and their promotion of this cause. This includes an outstanding $100,000 gift from the Seneca Student Federation.

To date, an amazing collection of Seneca supporters have raised over $300,000. But there is more work to do. If you have not done so already, please consider a contribution. Gifts of any size make a positive difference for many of our students, who are on the cutting edge of failure and success.

As one faculty member put it: “Each year, we lose students: not because they are not motivated or ill-suited to their chosen field of study, but because they simply cannot afford to continue their studies. These are the students we need to support and champion.” Read other donor testimonials here.

The motto across the College is “students first,” and supporting this campaign is a great way of demonstrating a personal commitment to those in need. Another participating Senecan observed that “for some students, an award means being able to purchase that critical text or resource that would otherwise be unattainable. I gave to the campaign in honour of all of those students I have seen come to Seneca and leave as changed people.”

Remember, your gift can be made by filling out the attached payroll deduction form, or by calling (416) 491-5050 ext 6939.  You can also donate securely online by clicking here. All donations are tax-deductible, and you will receive a charitable receipt for your gift.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for all that you do to support our students each day and for your participation in this campaign.

Best regards,

About us:

Advancement at Seneca  is comprised of Seneca’s Fund Development and Alumni divisions.

Our mandate is to support Seneca’s students by creating meaningful philanthropic opportunities and by building and maintaining relationships with alumni, donors, corporate partners and all levels of government. However, college students face barriers that can force them out of the classroom. Many have dependents – sometimes parents, sometimes children – and many are studying while holding a job, maybe two, paying tuition and paying bills.

Seneca is dedicated to providing students the resources they need to avoid financial hardship and to stay in the classroom. But we can’t do it alone.

In these trying economic times, investment in education becomes even more important. Economic prosperity depends heavily on a rich supply of skilled, educated employees. Your support of Seneca students will keep them learning and keep them local. That’s good news for our  economy today and tomorrow.

We want our partners to be actively engaged in life at Seneca and to see first hand how their contributions add to the successes our students are achieving. We are happy to keep you up-to-date on the happenings at Seneca through our Alumni magazine and Partners newsletter.
