Redirection Through Education is an academic program offered at Seneca College for students seeking a supportive educational environment in which to deal with Mental Health challenges. Students pursue education with accommodation and flexibility that helps them to reflect, regroup and redirect their lives to achieve wellness and life balance.
The program offers three semesters in which to take an array of credit and non credit courses designed to support students. Courses in computers, vocational exploration, volunteer placement and English can offer students a chance to update work skills that will help facilitate future success in school, work and volunteer avenues.
Credit courses are offered as options for students hoping to continue on to College, University or other academic institutions. For students entering an educational program for the first semester non credit courses are mandatory. These courses offer a gentle exposure to the classroom, learning and social interaction.
With extra support and structure, including a counsellor to facilitate every student’s success, the Redirection Through Education program and its faculty are dedicated to helping students reclaim lives affected by mental health issues.
Many people challenged with mental health issues face isolation, diminishing skills and self esteem issues that hinder their ability to return to work, retrain or go to school. Redirection Through Education addresses these issues towards facilitating a positive recovery.
