Upon graduation, you’ll have basic academic and office skills for careers in today’s business office in a variety of capacities. Courses are directly related to the skills needed in the current job market.

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma with senior English and Mathematics credits at the (C), (U) or (M) levels or equivalent, OR mature student status (age 19 or older)
  • Keyboarding at 30 gross words per minute (preferred)
  • New students may enter a subject dependent on their skills pre-test, OR the skills pre-test may determine advanced standing in any module

If program eligibility is not met, English and/or Mathematics upgrading may be pursued through Academic Upgrading (College preparation for adults).

Applicant Selection:

  • Skills pre-test (or prior learning) in English, Mathematics and Keyboarding.
  • Interview with program staff.

The Importance of Learning Skills:

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. While it is expected that applicants would have developed these skills through previous education and life experiences, Seneca offers support to assist students with further development of these important skills.

Your Career

Earn an Ontario College Certificate in Business Office Skills and focus your business skills on the area of your choice. Our graduates find a wide range of employment opportunities in business, including roles such as administrative assistant, desktop publishing specialist, accounting clerk, bookkeeper, receptionist/secretary or customer service representative.

Once you complete the required certificate modules, you must fill out a Request to Graduate form which is available from the Registration Office. If you are eligible to graduate, you will receive your diploma at a College convocation ceremony.
