Program Description

The Business Administration - Entrepreneurship and Small Business program adds entrepreneurial and small business know-how to a powerful foundation of general business knowledge and skills. The first four semesters, common to all programs in the School of Business Management, provide a practical and innovative education grounded in contemporary management theory.

In the final two semesters, students develop the skills required for planning, start up, managing, and expansion of successful small businesses. At the Entrepreneurship Guest Speaker Series, students are inspired by prominent business owners’ stories of challenge and growth. In turn, students identify innovative and promising venture ideas which are developed into smart business plans. At our “Sharks Pond” event, students champion these business ideas to industry leaders.

The learning experience is further enriched through seminars, case analysis, online business simulations, and external consulting projects. The entrepreneurial skills gained are not only essential to business owners but are also valued in established businesses and organizations.

The Importance of Learning Skills

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. While it is expected that applicants would have developed these skills through previous education and life experiences, Seneca offers support to assist students with further development of these important skills.

Educational Pathways

The common curriculum in the first two years provides students with the flexibility to transfer all earned credits to the four Business Administration programs listed in the chart below. The first four semesters are offered at both Newnham and Markham Campuses. The fifth and sixth semesters of these programs are only offered at Newnham Campus.

Further flexibility is provided through pathways to other programs in the Faculty of Business. The School of Business Management has a substantially common first-year curriculum with the Schools of Marketing and e-Business, International Business, Accounting and Financial Services, and the Centre for Human Resources. Therefore, students can transfer to programs in these other schools with credits already earned for the first year.
