Program Description

Seneca's Business Administration - Financial Planning program is designed to address the growing need for financial planning expertise. Your Career

This program includes the financial planning knowledge to prepare students for careers in financial planning and wealth management. The key areas of personal financial planning are covered including personal taxation, estate planning, retirement planning, risk management and insurance, and investment strategies. Graduates launch their careers within the financial services sector including banks, trusts, insurance companies, brokerage and financial planning firms. During the program students are able to write the Canadian Investment Fund Course (CIFC) exam and to attempt the Canadian Securities CourseTM (CSC) exam to obtain a securities license. As well, graduates are qualified to challenge the C.F.P. (Certified Financial Planner) Professional Competence Examination 1 (PCE1).

Co-op provides the student with the opportunity to secure a paid work term between the fifth and sixth semesters. The student has a shared responsibility for securing employment opportunities. Co-op allows students to combine classroom learning and real-world experience. Students must meet co-op entrance requirements in order to be considered (see Student Advisor or Co-op Coordinator for details).

Financial Planning students enrol in both Canadian Investment Funds Course (CIFC) and Canadian Securities CourseTM (CSC) at an additional cost.

Co-operative Education Option

The Importance of Learning Skills

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. While it is expected that applicants would have developed these skills through previous education and life experiences, Seneca offers support to assist students with further development of these important skills.
