Program Description

The Accounting and Information Technology (AIT) program is a two-semester, graduate certificate program, designed to provide you with a fast-track to a degree and CGA Certification. This is a great way to expedite your CGA designation in a classroom environment and earn degree credits concurrently, in addition to developing very critical systems and information technology skills that professional accountants must have.

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility:

• Successful completion of Seneca’s three year Accounting and Finance Advanced Diploma with grades of B or better in the required CGA* courses (Levels 1 - 3).
• English Proficiency at the college level.
  OR
• A college diploma or degree with one post secondary credit in both Marketing and Organizational Behaviour and completion of all CGA* courses (or equivalent) in levels 1 to 3 with grades of B or better.
• English proficiency at the college level.
  OR
• A professional who holds an accounting designation (CA; CGA; CMA)
• Successful completion of all CGA* courses (or the equivalent) in levels 1 to 3 with grades of B or better.
• English proficiency at the college level.

Applicant Selection:

• Qualified applicants will be accepted prioritized by academic excellence.

Recommended:

• Training in systems technologies and Microsoft application softwares.

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. While it is expected that applicants would have developed these skills through previous education and life experiences, Seneca offers support to assist students with further development of these important skills.

Our concise and focused AIT graduate certificate program allows you to complete all 4th level CGA subjects in addition to two 5th level subjects. Upon graduation, you’ll be poised to succeed in the world of accounting and finance or to pursue further education. Your career path could lead you into any of the large financial institutions, banks, insurance companies, into government departments, private and public large corporations' finance and accounting departments, international trading companies or multinational corporations. You’ll be ready to assume the responsibilities of a senior project accountant, general accountant, assistant or divisional controller, accounting systems administrator, production or financial controller or run your own company.

Diploma to Degree... and Beyond

Through transfer agreements and institution partnerships, graduates of this Seneca College program may be eligible for credit at the following post-secondary institution(s):

Additional Notes: The block reading week in the fall and winter semester may be devoted to a case study observation assignment.

Steps to Degree and CGA Designation

Step 1: Complete Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Professional Accounting Practice (PRA) Graduate Certificate program* Step 2: Complete Seneca's Accounting and Information Technology Graduate Certificate Program (see curriculum listed on this web page).

Step 3:	Apply to Seneca College bachelor's degree in International Accounting and Finance
Step 4:	Complete: the final year of the Seneca degree program.

Step 5:	Complete CGA PACE Level 5: - 2 CGA PACE Level 5 elective course - PA1 & PA2 (Professional Application Exam) - Work experience
CGA Designation, Certified General Accountants Association

Step 3:	Register with CGA Ontario (4 months prior to graduation from AIT)
Step 4:	Apply to Laurentian University
Step 5:	Complete: 5 Laurentian University subjects through electronic distance learning.
Step 6:	Complete: 1 CGA PACE Level 5 elective course.
